Access to electricity in Africa : our challenge
In 2017, it was estimated that 53 % of the African population had no access to electricity. Yet the development of the electricity network is essential to the development of the continent. Adeos International has taken on a challenge: to contribute to the coming systemic change by facilitating access to electricity in Africa.
Access to electricity, a major challenge for Africa
In Africa, it is estimated that out of 1.2 billion people, 645 million were living without electricity in 2017. That is more than half of the population. A majority of Africa’s population now lives in rural areas. As a result, they do not have access to national distribution networks. The World Bank, which is taking a close interest in this matter, believes that the extension and improvement of those networks are urgent. It has spoken of an economic transition and encourages the removal of obstacles that limit demand at each stage of the electrification plan.
While reliable access to electricity is an imperative for any modern economy, it is also a social issue. Electricity greatly improves the living conditions of those who have access to it. it enables hospitals to provide quality care, populations to improve their living standards with equipment such as refrigerators and telephones, and guarantees access to information.

As suppliers throughout Africa, we have been established in our main markets since 2017: Senegal, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Algeria. The creation of our factories in these places helps to sustain the economy and local human resources. Our subsidiaries benefit from logistical support and financial, legal and R&D support. This gives them the means to develop their own strategy by using their network of partners and by being included in local calls for tenders. In addition, our geographical proximity to our customers ensures optimal responsiveness. It also enables us to build up a relationship of trust with all our local contacts, which we value greatly.
In this way, we are participating along with all of our employees in Brittany, Dakar, Kinshasa and Algiers in the creation of a reliable electrical network that was previously insufficient.
